Saying Goodbye to a Canadian Gem

Music is something that can change your mood, make you want to shimmy and shake, entertain you and unite people all at the same time. Tonight we will be saying goodbye to a Canadian gem; The Tragically Hip. Part of the music scene since 1984, this band has made many memories for it’s fans and has been a favorite of mine (J) since I was born and although I was only born that same decade, their music has been adorned by me to this day. They are a Canadian band after all!

Being honest here, I couldn’t understand how or why people felt the way that they did when Michael Jackson and Prince passed away. Yes, they were legends but it’s not like they actually knew these people/celebrities. Hearing that Gord Downie has cancer and has been given so little time to live, which he is spending touring, I now know why or at least how they felt. I don’t know this man whatsoever but I do have a heart and I do have compassion so my human instincts to care about others kicks in. I’ve also listened to his music all my life. It’s fandom mixed with human compassion.

Tonight at 8:30 ET CBC will be live streaming The Hips LAST concert and while I’m saddened by the reasons for this, I’m happy that I’ll be able to watch it. Gord is an amazing singer that will be missed by many and it shows how great of a man he is by giving his fans one last show.

  1. My son loves music and I like that even with death, the legend of the Tragically Hip can live on.

I’m sorry that I missed the live streaming. Do you know it it’s available on YouTube?

    Besos Sarah.

    • I like that as well. It was a good show that apparently ate a lot of internet usage, lol. I’m not sure if it’s available on YouTube but I’m sure it’s somewhere on the net with as many fans as they have. Hoping that you’ll get the chance to watch it. ~J~
