Interview With “Keep From Falling” Author Amy Miller

We love to read and we love to promote so we’re honored to have had the opportunity to interview and promote first time author of “Keep From Falling” and long time friend of Jason from Frugal Canadian Coupon Mom; Amy Miller.

Amy is an independent author who resides in a small and cozy town in the most northern region of New Brunswick, Canada, where she lives with her son and husband. She recently published her very first novel called “Keep From Falling”. A story about a young woman who needs to decide whether she stays with her girlfriend or the new man whom she fell in love with at first. To make the task even more strenuous, a stranger comes to town with some secrets that weren’t meant to be revealed. Will she keep from falling or just let go?

Below Amy shared a few things with us regarding her book, the writing process, writing advice and more. We hope you’ll enjoy.

What inspired you to write your first book?

I’ve always wanted to write a book and have been writing stories and creating characters since I was 8, but it wasn’t until my mom passed away in 2012 that I decided to finally go for it.

How did you come up with the title?

I was actually inspired by lyrics of a song called Only One by Alex Band. The words really fit for my characters.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

There are a lot of messages in Keep From Falling… But I think the main message I set out to write was that finding yourself, truly allowing yourself to explore who you are, can hurt people you love but in the end it’s the only way to freedom and happiness.

Are experiences in your book based on someone you know, or events in your own life?

Yes and no. This is a tricky question. There are many aspects of the book that came from real life, especially all of the emotions expressed, but as far as the plot is concerned, that was purely thrown together by my imagination.

Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

I’m a big fan of Colleen Hoover, Mia Sheridan, and CJ Roberts at the moment. I love their writing styles as well as their story ideas!

What are your current projects? (book wise)

I’m currently working on two titles at the moment. They will be book 2 and 3 in the Markson Grove series. I haven’t decided which will come first as their timelines are relatively the same, but I have a pretty good idea. They are each stand-alone stories but have many of the same characters introduced in Keep From Falling.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

For a while writing from a teenaged male perspective was a bit daunting. I had a hard time getting my mind wrapped around the right dialect as well as the right thought process. I used to have to spend hours trying to put myself there. Now, though, I don’t find it difficult at all. I can switch back and forth from male to female characters with ease.

Do you have any advice for other writers?

Keep writing. That’s the biggest thing. Don’t give up and don’t let others dictate what you like to write. Chances are if you like it, then someone else out there will like it too.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Thank you for all of the love and for connecting to my characters as I’ve connected to them. I hold Skylar especially close to my heart and all of the love and support I’ve received about her pain has been incredibly touching.
