DIY Birthday Cake

Everyone has a birthday and year after year we run out to buy decorations, loot bags, food or snacks, cake and gifts. And Every year the cost of food goes up! It may sound cheap, but seriously, who wants to spend $35 or more on a cake that’s going to be demolished? For the last few years we’ve made our own cakes for the little ones birthdays and while they aren’t perfect they’ve been a huge hit with the kids πŸ™‚ Below you’ll find a breakdown of costs per item and pictures of our cool cake we made this year for our son’s 4th birthday!

  • $1 Rainbow Cake Mix
  • $1 Vanilla Icing
  • Free: Green food coloring we already had.
  • $1 Chocolate Icing
  • $2 Trucks
  • $2 Candy
  • $2 bag of Cookies

Total: $10.00 +Tax

  7. Thats really good. my mom made our cakes and never bought one. They were the coolest thing ever. Now she and I can make my daughters.

  8. what a great cake ! I make our family cakes also ! my daughter having an egg allergy has forced me to get creative and make things like castle and mermaid cakes , I love it !! tons of fun !

    • This was our first time making our own. With the small cake that you get when ordered isn’t worth the price when we can do it for $10 or less. Stores here charge $25 for a cake half that size! The kid’s loved it and we’re positive that yours will be too. ~J~
