cutting up the bean sprouts

I decided I was first going to make some sheppard’s pie with my first batch of beans. We used the Mung beans. As Seen Above ^

  • First I took them & rinsed them off
  • Pat dried a little
  • Then put them in a bowl and chopped them really small with some scissors..
  • Finally added them to the already cooked hamburger and let it cook on low for a little while!
  • Layer your Sheppard’s pie and Voila…. *was yummy and better looking in person hehe

cooking it

Weetabix Review

When it comes to cereal I would always go for the sugar coated ones, as I get older I realize that they honestly don’t have much of a health value to them at all! Now, I can’t say that I cut them from my diet completely but I have started buying healthier ones with less sugar added to them. Which is why I am very happy to tell you about Weetabix cereal!

I was very impressed with the fact that this product is low in sodium with only 2 grams of sugar per 2 biscuits. I tried mine with fresh fruit and a sprinkle of sugar and was very impressed with the taste of it! Something I like to do when I receive products to review, is allow family members to test it as well, as a means of multiple opinions. I can honestly say my Dad is a picky eater, especially if it’s healthy! So I was beyond surprised when he told me “It was really good with blueberries”. Not only did my Dad like it, my 3 year old was stealing bites from my bowl 🙂  I also love the fact that Weetabix is made with 100% Canadian wheat, Go Canada!

You can find lots more information about this awesome breakfast product called Weetabix here:

If you are looking for something more healthy in your diet I definitely recommend this product!

#BioSnackySprouts Challenge. Day 1

I first want to start off by saying that I am beyond thrilled to be 1 of the 30 blogger applicants selected, to be part of this amazing 10-day Sprouting Challenge using this great 3-tier Sprouter, generously supplied by A.Vogel. Thank you so much.! 🙂 Here is everything that was included in the #BioSnackySprouts kit. :

So this is completely my first time doing anything like this and I am beyond happy to have this opportunity! Now for the next 10 days (because we had to start the challenge on June 20th), we are to keep track of this great little invention and document the progress. Here is what it looked like the first day, as we go it ready and after everything was set up…

  • We washed it out.
  • Adjusted the little red caps
  • Measured and added them to each tier
  • We Rinsed off the seeds
  • Added our water just above the red cap in the first tier
  • Watched with our Son as the water drained into each of the different tiers (just like in science class) He loved it.
  • Then we set them where there is sunlight, away from my 3 year old (giggles)
And that’s it. Pretty simple huh?
Now please follow me over the next 10 days as I keep you up-to-date with the progress of our little bean sprouts…

In the meantime if you have any Recipes that you would like to share with me, I would really appreciate it, because once they are ready, I am gonna need to use/cook them 🙂

Tips on “How to Begin Couponing”

I often get asked “Well how do I start Couponing??” So I have put together a list and some tips to try and make it as easy as possible for everyone. 🙂 Please take the time after you read it, to leave a comment about your thoughts on it and if there’s anything you would add to it? Thanks for reading!!!

First I would go to the stores you shop at (and even ones you don’t) that have groceries, cleaners etc, and walk up and down every isle to check for “tear pad” Coupons. These are Coupons found displayed in front of items on the shelves at the store, They are meant so you can take a few, and leave some for others as well. 🙂
Other places you can find coupons in the store, are on Displays in the isles, at the cash register in those “take me magazines”, and even the ones who are giving out Samples to try sometimes have coupons to giveaway 🙂 Once you start looking for them, you will find them! *Take some of each, even if you do not plan to use them. Sometime in the future you may want to trade them for some coupons that are of use to you..I will explain that more later on!!! …So, pretty simple so far? 🙂

Next, you will need:

  • 1 Zippered Binder, 1-2 Inches should be good for now,
  • A few packages of hockey card inserts found at the dollarstore or walmart (this is where you are going to put your coupons)
  • A highlighter (So you can highlight the expiry date on each coupon)
  • Scissors (You will need these later to cut coupons you receive by mail)
  • A Divider (This is so you can divide you binder into 2 sections.*After you get home and you have all of your coupons highlighted and your binder assembled, you are ready to start organizing the coupons into the inserts. This is how I file my coupons. Everyone is different and will have different ways that will best suit them, so this is for an example only. I have my way to file the coupons because I have tried many different things before and this is the only thing that works for me. In sections: FOOD and OTHER. Each of these 2 categories have different sub-categories such as: Dairy, Meats, Snacks, Freezer, Cleaners, Men/Women Products etc…

Now you can go Online and look on these great sites for coupons. Simply sign up with your name and mailing info (on most) and you some will mail you coupons, others you will have to print.

After your coupons are ordered, wait for them to come in, cut the out and file them right away if not you WILL fall behind. Please trust me on that one hehe… TIP: watch that you don’t cut off the expiry date or bar code, as it makes the coupon invalid.

Check the sales weekly. Every Thursday we normally get ours. Match up items on sale with the coupons you have (eventually you will get used to and remember the kinds of coupons you have)

Another thing to look out are In-Store specials. Each store is different. Check the clearance shelves/section as this is how you will pay next to nothing for stuff 🙂 You gotta take the time to go up and down every isle as you never know what you will find that you have a coupon for!!!

Try googling “Canadian Coupon Sites” to see what comes up. Do a lot of reading. It takes time, but the more You do it and play around, the more you will learn!!

Learn the Coupon Policies for the stores you shop at. It can be as simple as an email to them, a phone call or a trip to the store and ask a manager. 🙂 Don’t be shy to ask for a copy.

And of course don’t forget about SCOP (Scanning Code Of Practice). You can read more about that here:

If you can think of others, please let me know and I will add them :)Thanks!!!

Biore Acne Clearing Scrub

I want to start this review off by saying a huge Thank-You to BIORE for making such a really great product. I am VERY picky when it comes to putting creams and face washes on my sensitive skin, but I had the opportunity to try this face scrub for the first time and I was beyond impressed with it. This is one of the absolute best scrubs I have ever tried.

You only need a small pea sized amount and that is more then enough to lather your face. Which for me is Awesome because that means it will last me a while, saving me money. And people who know me, know I love saving money. These bottles sell for about $6 – $7 …If you would like to know where you can buy them in your area, here’s a list of Stores .

Now at first I didn’t know this, because its not written anywhere on the bottle, but as you are washing your face, you get this really nice tingling sensation. It feels almost like little bubbles scrubbing my face. I really liked that about it because I know I am getting a deep down clean. It doesn’t have an oily feel to it, nor does it leave an oily feeling on my face. Biore’s scrub smells so good, its a nice refreshing scent of orange/manderin that lasts long after you’ve dried your face. Another great feature about this product is that it leaves your face so smooth and soft. I find it so much easier to put on my foundation after using this, I was never this fortunate before 🙂 . Even my hubby uses it to wash his face, (don’t tell him I told you that either hehe). He says he loves it as well!
I just love this scrub and can’t wait for a sale so I can stock up. Once you try it, I am sure you will have the same thoughts as me. “You never wanna leave the house without washing your face with it” !!! It will help you fight and prevent breakouts,. It won’t dry out or cause your skin to break out. I honestly Highly Recommend this face wash. Its even perfect for stocking stuffers, (even if Christmas is still far away) or you could purchase other Biore products and make up a little “Gift Basket” for someone 🙂

Have you tried this product before?? Please leave a comment below!

Now this is one of the best tools in my kitchen, by far. Finally something invented for picky little eaters. My son absolutely loves when I make him lunch & snacks with *Funbites*. I personally love all of the different food that I get to use it on and it instantly makes eating it, fun 🙂 This is great to use on children’s food, making everything into BITE-SIZED pieces. I have used Funbites to make appetizers for grown-up parties as well as birthday parties 🙂 See what I mean, you can use it for so many different things. Here’s some stuff I have tried and successfully was able to use this product on : Cheese, Pizza, Sandwiches/Grilled Cheese, Fruits, Vegetables, Pancakes, Cookies, etc. Here’s a list of other fun and creative ideas made by others :
Find it Here

I would definitely say that this product is a time-saving machine. There’s no hassle, its safe to use ( I even let my 3 year old cut his own toast. With my supervision of course) and best of all it is easy to clean. It comes with a “popper” that instantly pops out the square-shaped pieces. Its so simple. I just love it.
Here’s what you do:
Step 1: Wash it and Remove popper top and set to the side.
Step 2: Place Funbites cutter on top of food. Grab cutter handles on both sides, press down firmly and rock 5-6 times to cut through your food.

Step 3: Lift the cutter up, insert popper top and pop out the bite-sized pieces! and Voila. Your ready to serve!!!!

–>You can find & buy Funbites Products here on Their Website
–>They cost about $13.00 each (+shipping)

My Homemade Baby Wipes

My son always has skin irritation that is caused from the perfumes in certain products. Such as laundry soap, body wash, creams, and wipes..One day we ran out of wipes, and I had no way to get to the grocery store, so I decided to make my own. This is what I did, and have been doing ever since. I honestly wish I would of come up with this when he was just a tiny baby. Saves us a BUNCH of money, as you can get the paper towels on sale at least once a month at Shoppers for $1.99 for 8 rolls…Which if you broke it down, 1 roll of PT would make a box of wipes, for a lot cheaper..Make as many as you like…Its simple and quick!!!

Here’s the simple instructions..

  • Take a roll of paper towel and break off each little square of it
  • Then just fold the paper towels in halfs..
  • Put all the pieces of Paper Towel you just folded and add it to one of the containers of wipes you may have hanging around, if not just get an air tight container
  • Add some water and any scent you would like (optional) to the container in layers…I didn’t measure how much water I put in, but the paper towel absorbs the water eventually…..

And there you have it. Wipes with absolutely NO chemicals or harsh perfumes etc….#GoGreen 🙂
It will save you SO much money, and keep those baby bum’s rash free 🙂

What do you think about this? Would you try it? I would LOVE to hear some feedback!!!
Please comment below and feel free to share with all your friends and family..As it could save them alot of money in the long run 😀 or you can Tweet your answer to @FrugalCouponMum

Daddy Scrubs (Hubby)

I was recently given the opportunity to review a wonderful product for dads known as “Daddy Scrubs“, which are scrubs for the expectant “Daddy” to wear in the delivery room 🙂 I have to admit, I don’t care much for hospital scrubs, they aren’t all that comfy, paper thin and are difficult to tie! Most of all Ugly LOL..

Daddy Scrubs are nothing like “hospital scrubs”, these are so comfortable that I now have a new pair of pajamas and they keep me nice & toasty (essential to a Scorpio ) I absolutely love the cute little poem that was written inside the shirt as well as the logos printed along the side of the pants! I was also very impressed with the strength of the material and the way the draw strings have been overlapped, making them easier to tie. Great design!

My sister in law is a nurse, so I verified that these are acceptable in the delivery room but they do have a strict dress code for surgery (c-section), so keep that in mind if you’re asked to put on a hospital gown! All-in-all, I was very impressed with this product and think that the quality is well worth the money and recommend it as a great gift for a “Father to Be” or any Father for that matter, not only do they have scrubs, they also have hats/hoodies and more 🙂

John Frieda Luxurious Volume

I had the awesome opportunity to review these 2 great products. I have been using them for about a month now and absolutely love how it makes my hair feel. Now to be completely honest with you, I have really thin hair and it is as straight as a board,I don’t need to brush it because it falls into place all the time.

I can honestly say that I have never had a Shampoo or Conditioner physically give volume to my hair. Well this one has!!! I am always playing with and running my fingers through. Also instead of always keeping it tied up in a ponytail because I can’t really do anything with it, ( that just goes to show the “lack of Volume” in my hair) I actually leave it down now 🙂 My hair really feels much thicker then it is and definitely alot fuller now since using John Frieda Luxurious Volume and of course it definitely has more bounce to it.

After I use this great duo, my hair is left feeling Extremely clean & smelling amazing! Makes me feel like I just got home from  the Hair Salon. The only thing I find with the shampoo is that is doesn’t foam up in my hair as most shampoos would. Its just a personal preference that’s all! The most important thing is it Cleans my hair and it gives it Volume.

The Conditioner makes your hair so unbelievably soft, like after you use that tube of conditioner when you dye your hair 🙂 I normally always use conditioner when washing my hair, as I find most shampoos strip my hair of it natural oils, leaving it really dry and unmanageable. Not John Frieda Luxurious Volume though 🙂
I even put the shampoo to the test alone and was quite impressed! Now I can tell you how it would make someone else’s hair feel like, but for those with Thin, Volume-less hair like mine, this is definitely a product that I would recommend to you. I am sure you will love it just as much as I did. Get ready for some Volume 😀 .. (Its times like this I wish I had taken a picture of my boring hair before & after, so you can see the difference!)

Okay so being a Couponer and someone who likes saving money, you can imagine that I have a bit of a hair time paying the $8.99 for 1 shampoo (without a sale or a coupon) hehe but honestly with results like this, you won’t mind treating yourself to this kind of treat every few months. It’s completely cheaper then buying it from the Salon (or booking an appointment with them + a tip), but you really do get the same results. Of course it does come on sale 🙂 so keep your eyes peeled the next time you go shopping and really think about giving it a try, You won’t regret it :}

Zevia Beverages Review

Zevia is a low calorie, no sugar added, all natural Stevia sweetened soda beverage. Now as a regular Pop drinker, you can’t fool me when it comes to taste. I like my Pepsi and Coke products, so when I was told about this Soda Substitute (as I call it) I was a little skeptical. I was very fortunate enough to have had a try at the Canuck Pack,.There was the 11 following flavors and this is what I thought about them!

  • Grape… This was a good one. I liked it similar taste to the grape soda you buy in the stores. My son does not drink Pop (he is 3) but my niece is a huge lover of any kind of “Junk” food and I let her try this one. She loved it. So I would say it is Kid-Approved 🙂 This would be a great one to buy for birthday parties… It can even be use in Recipes, such as this one.. Click Here
  • Black Cherry… I can’t say too much about this one, because I am absolutely not a fan of any kin of cherry type cola. Its just not my thing, its a personal taste, you might try it and love it. Find out here about it HERE

  • Gingerale: This is the one I first tried, as gingerale is what I’d normally be drinking. I was pleasantly surprised with it’s similar great taste. It still has that same great fizz and bubbles as any soda 🙂 Find out more on this flavor HERE
  • Caffeine Free Cola… Taste almost the same as the Zevia Cola. Which taste good. Its not exactly the same taste as the brand name stuff, but its still great in its own unique way. Perfect for those avoiding caffeine and also another great one for kids!. Find out more HERE

  • Orange... I really enjoyed this one. Its was a nice orange drink, very similar to brand name sodas. I love also love the shiny cans they all come in. Makes it alot more appealing when your drinking it. You can find out more info on this flavor HERE
  • Lemon Lime Twist…. I love it. Its even better then the brand names. So much flavor. It’s like BAM in your mouth, citrus flavor 🙂 Find out more HERE

  • Ginger Rootbeer …. To be honest I was never a huge drinker of gingerale. Once in awhile I would order one if we went to A&W to eat, but other then that, its not my thing. Zevia made it taste great somehow and that’s all that’s important. You really need to try this for yourself. I know people who like eat those “Rootbeer Floats” you can try their receipe. HERE
  • Cola….Now when I drink this, it reminds me of brand name diet cola, just slightly more watery. In general I like it, but its not one of my favs. You can find more info on this flavor HERE
  • Cherry Cola…. Again Im not a fan of the cherry and cola but the hubby likes them, so they must be good? 🙂 Find out more about this flavor HERE

  • Cream Soda …I can honestly say that neither my hubby nor I liked the taste of this flavor. You might, but I can’t even describe it. I know that it is way off of actual cream soda.. Sorry guys 😦 I wouldn’t try again… You can read more about this flavor HERE
  • Dr Zevia : Check out more info on this flavor and see this great Gluten Free recipe HERE

If for some reason I was told that I wasn’t able to drink regular pop again, I would be just fine because I now have the piece of mind of knowing I have other options that are just as great and even Better for me. There is so much less sugar in a can of Zevia compared to even a juice box. With a wide variety of flavors, you are sure to find something to your liking. This really is a product you want you fill your fridge and stockpile up with.

Its great for people on special diets, diabetics or other anyone who just wants to consume healthier products. You can find them in the organic/health section. Find a store near you that carries this great product. Click here and simply enter your postal code! Please know that the varieties are different in each store, but if you would like to make a request for a certain kind near you, check out this Retailer Request
